Unlike human mothers who keep their kids for about 18 years, manatee mothers stay with their calves roughly 2 years, mothers teach their calves crucial survival skills such as prime foraging grounds, safety from hurricanes, and travel routes (such as to springs during the winter months) all while providing protection and creating a strong bond between the two. That's true dedication and love.
